Joleon Lescott 'told he can leave West Bromwich Albion'

West Bromwich Albion will allow defender Joleon Lescott to leave the club if they bring in a new signing ahead of next week's deadline, a report claims.

West Bromwich Albion defender Joleon Lescott has reportedly been told that he can leave the club as soon as defensive cover is brought in.

The England international has started just one match for the Baggies this season - the opening-game defeat to Manchester City.

It was claimed last week that Lescott, who only joined Albion last year, was close to agreeing a new deal at The Hawthorns.

However, Sky Sports News suggests that West Brom are now ready to offload the centre-back should they sign a new defender before next week's deadline.

Premier League rivals Aston Villa are thought to be the frontrunners to sign Lescott.
