West Bromwich Albion have confirmed that Steven Reid will be out of action for the rest of the season with an ankle ligament injury.
The 30-year-old right-back was expected to be sidelined for a lengthy period after suffering the injury during the Baggies' 1-0 win over Chelsea last weekend.
"It's a major blow to lose Steven," manager Roy Hodgson told the club's official website. "He's done so well at the club since I came here just over a year ago.
"He's been outstanding. It's not the same injury he suffered at Newcastle. It's the same ankle but this time it's an internal ligament rather than an external ligament."
Reid will undergo surgery next week and is likely to be ruled out for three months.
