Romelu Lukaku lauds progress at West Bromwich Albion

Romelu Lukaku thinks that West Bromwich Albion can push on and challenge for a place in the upper reaches of the Premier League this season.

Romelu Lukaku has declared that competition for places at West Bromwich Albion is driving the team up the table.

The Belgian striker marked his first league start for the Baggies with the winning goal against Reading.

Lukaku revealed that he has settled quickly in the Midlands and is enjoying life under West Brom boss Steve Clarke.

He told ESPN: "In our team, there is always good competition for places and we have to continue like that. When a player comes on, he wants to do the best for the team so he can start the next game.

"I spoke to Steve Clarke as well and I just told him: 'You help me improve and I'll do the rest'. With the good signings we have had, the good competition and the quality of players, I think I had no choice when moving here because it felt good.

"I have big expectation for the squad. Hopefully we can finish as close as possible to the big six. You never know in this league."

Lukaku has two West Brom goals to his name after also scoring on his first-team debut against Liverpool on the opening day of the season.
