Daryl Janmaat has admitted that he was attracted to Watford because of the club's ambitions to continue improving in the Premier League.
The Dutchman joined the Hornets on a four-year deal on Wednesday in a deal worth around £7m, bringing to an end his two years at Newcastle United.
Despite reportedly having interest from elsewhere, most notably from West Ham United, Janmaat felt that linking up with Walter Mazzarri at Vicarage Road would help further his own career.
"You always look to different things, and in the end, Watford was the best decision for me," he told his new side's official website.
"Everybody wants to play at the highest level, and that was a big thing that attracted me. I believe in the squad here, the club wants to keep improving and I'd like to be part of that."
Janmaat played in Newcastle's opening two Championship fixtures, both of which ended in defeat, before putting pen to paper at Watford.
