Ryan Giggs: 'Don't boo God Save the Queen'

Ryan Giggs plays down his decision not to sing 'God Save The Queen' ahead of last night's match and urges Welsh supporters not to boo the anthem when Team GB visit Cardiff on Wednesday.

Team GB captain Ryan Giggs has said that he hopes that the British national anthem is not booed in Cardiff later this week.

Stuart Pearce's men face Uruguay at the Millennium Stadium on Wednesday in a game that will decide both teams' Group A fate.

Giggs, along with the four other Welsh members of the GB squad, refused to sing 'God Save The Queen' ahead of last night's 3-1 win against the UAE.

"The British anthem is the same for a Welshman, Scotsman or an Englishman," said Giggs after the match. "It's difficult but it's not an issue for us. It might be for other people but, once the game starts, we're all pulling in the same direction and I think that's the main thing.

"I hope it won't get booed [in Cardiff] and I hope the fans will get behind us as they have in our first two games.

"It will mean a lot to all of the Welsh lads to play in our own stadium, our own back yard so it will be a great occasion."

Giggs was capped 64 times at senior international level by Wales.
