Valenciennes lead Marseille 3-0 at half time of their Ligue 1 clash at Stade Nungesser II.

Valenciennes lead Marseille 3-0 at the interval of their Ligue 1 clash at Stade Nungesser II.

Both sides had chances inside the opening five minutes, but Anthony Le Tallac fired wide for the home side before Andre-Pierre Gignac fired an effort over the bar for Marseille.

The home side took the lead after 16 minutes, however, when Gael Danic curled a free kick into the top corner.

Marseille began to take control of possession as the half developed, but Benoit Cheyrou fired an effort wide of the target before the 30-minute mark.

Both sides had chances in the latter stages of the half, but it was the home side who added a second 10 minutes before the break when Le Tallac converted from close range.

Valenciennes were not finished there, however, and they added a third through Foued Kadir just before the interval.
