Preview: Republic of Ireland vs. USA

Sports Mole looks ahead to Tuesday's friendly between the Republic of Ireland and the USA in Dublin.

Republic of Ireland will be looking to get over their recent loss to Scotland in Euro 2016 qualifying on Tuesday when they welcome the USA to Dublin for a friendly.

The Irish saw their hopes of reaching the upcoming European Championship suffer a setback last Friday with a narrow 1-0 defeat to their Group D rivals in Glasgow.

Martin O'Neill's side are now in fourth place in the standings, three points behind leaders Poland.

Meanwhile, the USA travel to the Aviva Stadium having failed to win in their last three matches in all competitions.

Jurgen Klinsmann's team were beaten 2-1 in a friendly by Colombia on Friday, while there previous two matches ended in draws with Ecuador and Honduras respectively.

Ireland will be without record goalscorer Robbie Keane after he was released to play for LA Galaxy in the MLS playoffs, while Darron Gibson will also be missing for the hosts.

Lee Nguyen, Jermaine Jones, DeAndre Yedlin and DaMarcus Beasley are all absent for the USA, with the quartet leaving the camp to also prepare for the MLS playoffs.

The last meeting between Ireland and the USA came back in April 2002, when the Irish earned a 2-1 victory over the Americans in a friendly.
