Togo qualified for the last eight of Africa Cup of Nations courtesy of a 1-1 draw against Tunisia this evening.

Togo started the brighter of the two sides and broke the deadlock with 12 minutes played. Tottenham Hotspur striker Emmanuel Adebayor played in Serge Gakpe, who took one touch before he slotted the ball into the bottom corner of the net.

However, Tunisia responded positively and were level in the 29th minute thanks to Khaled Mouelhi, who kept his cool to score from the penalty spot after Walid Hichri had been brought down inside the area by Dare Nibombe.

As it stood, Togo were heading through, which prompted a large number of attacks from Tunisia after the restart as they tried to secure their spot in the quarter-finals.

Their best chance came 15 minutes from time when they were awarded a second penalty after Saber Khelifa had been floored, but on this occasion Mouelhi only succeeded in striking the post.

They continued to flood forward in search of a winning goal in the closing stages, but their efforts proved to be unsuccessful as they exited the competition at the group stages.

Togo will now take on Burkina Faso at the weekend for a place in the semi-finals.
