Swansea City 'to move for Celtic's Adam Matthews'

Celtic full-back Adam Matthews, once of Cardiff City, emerges as a reported target for Swansea City.

Swansea City are plotting a move for former Cardiff City defender Adam Matthews, according to reports.

Wales Online claims that the Welsh international could be allowed to leave current club Celtic after the Hoops were beaten by Legia Warsaw in their Champions League qualifier last week.

It is believed that Matthews is being lined up as competition for full-backs Neil Taylor and Angel Rangel, and the 22-year-old could be available for around £2m, with the Scottish champions said to be mindful of the possible financial impact of missing out on European football.

Matthews could be one of three new arrivals at the Liberty Stadium, with the Swans also rumoured to pursuing Celtic teammate Virgil van Dijk, who may cost £6m.

Meanwhile, manager Garry Monk is said to be keen on a permanent move for Jonathan de Guzman, but is willing to turn to Southampton's Jack Cork if a deal for the Dutch international cannot be agreed.
