Garry Monk: 'Swansea City fringe players must wait'

Swansea City manager Garry Monk insists that his side's fringe players must wait for their next opportunity after failing to impress in their 1-0 defeat by Hull City.

Swansea City manager Garry Monk has suggested that his side's fringe players must wait for their next opportunity after failing to impress in a 1-0 defeat by Hull City last night.

The 36-year-old made 10 changes from the starting XI that drew with Everton on Saturday as the Premier League side were knocked out of the League Cup by the recently-relegated Tigers after David Meyler's first-half winner at the KC Stadium, and Monk believes that Swansea's squad players need to force their way into his plans.

"All these players are first-team players and they're all ready to compete now," Monk is quoted as saying by Eurosport. "But only 11 can start so not everyone can be involved. That's part of your life as a professional footballer.

"It's your job to be professional every single day, work as hard as you can every single day. That's the standard I set, whether you're a starter or someone who hasn't been playing.

"You can be called on at any moment and your job is to be professional for the club that pays your wages. I've no problem with this group doing that."

Swansea will take on Southampton in the Premier League on Saturday.
