Garry Monk heaps praise on match-winner Bafetimbi Gomis

Goalscorer Bafetimbi Gomis will take a lot of confidence from Swansea City's 1-0 victory over Aston Villa, according to manager Garry Monk.

Swansea City boss Garry Monk picked out match-winner Bafetimbi Gomis for particular praise following his side's 1-0 victory over Aston Villa.

The Frenchman struck three minutes from time at Villa Park to fire the Swans up to eighth place in the Premier League table, while inflicting a first defeat in four outings on the hosts.

It was Gomis's first goal since collapsing on the field at White Hart Lane earlier this month, and Monk believes that his star striker will take great confidence from the game.

"He's fine like we said at the time, of course it's a concern but we understand his situation and you've seen from the last two performances there's no stopping him," BT Sport quotes the 36-year-old as saying.

"His work rate is incredible. Yes he'll be disappointed he didn't take early chances but he kept pushing and got his goal in the end. He deserved that and it will give him confidence.

"A lot of people can get upset and lose concentration but they are very focused players. There were some big performances out there from us."

Swansea play host to Hull City in their next league outing on April 4.
