Garry Monk 'disappointed' as Swansea City draw at home to Sunderland

Swansea boss Garry Monk believes that his side were the better team in their 1-1 draw with Sunderland.

Swansea City manager Garry Monk believes that his side deserved to beat Sunderland this afternoon at the Liberty Stadium, where they were held to a 1-1 draw.

Jermain Defoe opened the scoring for the visitors shortly before half time, but Ki Sung-yueng secured a point for the Welsh side with a second-half header.

Monk has admitted that his side need to be much sharper in attack after they wasted several opportunities.

He told the club's official website: "The result was frustrating because we had enough good chances to take three points. It was disappointing that their only shot was a goal, which set us back a bit because we looked like the ones that would take the lead. We gave them a little too much space, but it was the only mistake we made.

"We got a good equaliser and tried to push to get the second, but it wasn't to be today. We had enough chances to score two or three, but the ball didn't want to go in the back of the net. We were the better team overall.

"You have to give Sunderland credit because they got their goal and defended well at times, but we needed to be a bit sharper."

Swansea sit ninth in the Premier League table, but have won just one of their last six games.
