Swansea City's Garry Monk: 'Chelsea doctor row overshadowed our performance'

Swansea City boss Garry Monk says that the row involving Jose Mourinho and Chelsea's medical staff has "overshadowed" the Swans' performance in their 2-2 draw.

Swansea City boss Garry Monk has expressed 'disappointment' that the row involving Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho and the club's medical staff has overshadowed the Swans' impressive performance at Stamford Bridge.

Last weekend, the Welsh outfit came from behind twice to seal a 2-2 draw on the opening day of the Premier League season.

After the match, Mourinho criticised club doctor Eva Carneiro for running onto the pitch to treat Eden Hazard while the Blues were down to 10 men.

As a result, Carneiro and physio Jon Fearn have reportedly been axed from the dugout in this Sunday's game against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

"What Chelsea choose to do internally is their choice and the manager has the right to have whoever he wants on the bench, that's his prerogative and for others to judge," Monk told reporters.

"The disappointing part of it all is that's what the national press has decided to focus on and not the performance my players put on. To go to the champions in the first game of the season and put a performance like that on - it's been overshadowed."

Swansea are preparing to face Newcastle United at the Liberty Stadium this weekend.
