Steve McClaren: 'All clubs should follow Swansea City model'

Newcastle United manager Steve McClaren praises Swansea's rise in recent years and says that all clubs should follow the South Wales outfit's model for success.

Newcastle United boss Steve McClaren has claimed that Swansea City have developed a club model which rivals should follow in order to succeed.

The Magpies visit the Swans for their second game of the Premier League season on Saturday, and McClaren is impressed with the rise of the South Wales club.

"Over the years they've been one of the clubs who certainly lower league and Championship clubs have modelled themselves on or tried to," he told reporters.

"They are a perfect model for coming up through the leagues and not just consolidating but going on.

"From the outside we look in and it's a club the size of Swansea that everybody needs to follow. And I think a lot of credit goes to Huw Jenkins the chairman. He runs that club so, so well. They had a change of manager but the transition was smooth."

Swansea last season finished eighth in the Premier League, just four years after gaining promotion from the Championship.
