Swansea City forward Nathan Dyer has claimed that his hat-trick in Sunday's 5-0 League Cup final win over Bradford City "wasn't meant to be".

Having already scored two goals in the match at Wembley Stadium, Dyer was eager to take the penalty that his side were awarded in the 59th minute as he looked to become the first player to score three goals in such a final.

However, Jonathan de Guzman converted the spot kick after a dispute between the two players as the Swans went on to claim a comfortable victory.

"I haven't scored for a while so to get two goals today, obviously I wanted the hat-trick with the penalty," Dyer told Sky Sports News.

"Obviously, I had to score on a historical moment like this and I thought I should have gotten the ball but it wasn't meant to be and I passed it on and that's the way it went."

Swansea's triumph was the Welsh club's first major piece of silverware in their history.
