Gus Poyet not thinking about new signings

New Sunderland boss Gus Poyet claims that he is not thinking about signing new players for now.

New Sunderland manager Gus Poyet has claimed that he is not thinking about signing new players until he has assessed the current squad.

The former Brighton & Hove Albion boss took charge of the Black Cats earlier this week after the sacking of Paolo Di Canio.

Despite his predecessor bringing in 13 new faces over the summer, Poyet insists that he is not looking to shake things up further.

"To be honest, we didn't talk about funds for team strengthening before I came here," he told The Chronicle.

"My idea is to assess the players that are here and make sure I check them properly - which ones are down, which ones want to be here and which ones can help me.

"But I don't think we can start talking too much before then. At the moment, it's not something I'm even thinking about."

Poyet will oversee his first Sunderland match on October 19 when they travel to Swansea City in the Premier League.
