Lee Cattermole signs new six-year Sunderland contract

Sunderland announce that midfielder Lee Cattermole has signed a new six-year contract.

Lee Cattermole has put pen to paper on a five-year contract extension with Premier League outfit Sunderland.

The 27-year-old midfielder was due to be out of contract next summer, but he has now committed until the end of the 2020-21 season.

Sunderland head coach Dick Advocaat told the club website: "Lee is the controller of the side. He is a motivator, a leader and central to the success of our team.

"To know that he will be with us for many years to come is very important to the club."

Since joining the Black Cats from Wigan Athletic in 2009, Cattermole has made 147 appearances for the Wearside club.
