Stalemate between Sunderland and Swansea City

Sunderland and ten-man Swansea City play out a goalless draw despite some good football from both sides.

Sunderland and ten-man Swansea City have played out a 0-0 draw despite a number of good chances this afternoon.

A lively start from Swansea saw Bafetimbi Gomis find Wayne Routledge, but the winger was unable to find a way through a tight Black Cats defence.

The move, which had initially started in a promising fashion, ended with the ball blasted well over the bar.

Sunderland's response came in the form of Sebastian Larsson and Adam Johnson, who both forced good saves from Swans keeper Lukas Fabianski.

Patrick van Aanholt was the next to try his luck, but his shot sailed well over the goal.

Lee Cattermole then hit a drive from the edge of the area which was deflected behind as Sunderland ramped up the pressure on their opponents.

After the break, Sunderland came out eager to pick up where they left off but niggling fouls often broke up their play.

Larsson sent in a low free kick towards Connor Wickham, but the Swans cleared after a block by Jonjo Shelvey.

Angel Rangel was sent off for the visitors for a second bookable offence but it had no effect on the result as it finished 0-0.
