Gus Poyet satisfied with 14th place

Sunderland boss Gus Poyet admits that he will take his side's 14th-placed finish in the Premier League following their miraculous escape from the relegation zone.

Sunderland boss Gus Poyet has admitted that he is satisfied with the club's 14th-placed finish in the Premier League despite their defeat on the final day to Swansea City.

The Swans cruised to a 3-1 victory over the Black Cats at the Stadium of Light, ending the hosts' run of four straight wins that pulled them clear of the relegation zone.

Poyet told the club's official website: "Finishing 14th in the table is good enough for me after the season that we have had; I'm happy with that. I tried to make as few changes as possible to the side today but there were a few players with problems.

"It was quite intense; we were looking for a result to finish off the season but after the week that we've had we did look a little flat today.

"I think we did well to get back in the game after going two goals behind, I thought we might have seen something special and taken something from the game but Swansea's third goal really killed it off."

Poyet has been linked with West Ham United to replace Sam Allardyce if the Hammers boss is sacked next week.
