Preview: St Polten Women vs. Slavia Prague Women - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Thursday's Women's Champions League clash between St Polten Women and Slavia Prague Women, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

After beating Slavia Prague Women 1-0 in November, St Polten Women will be looking to record another victory when the two sides meet on Thursday.

St Polten, who sit in third place, are currently four points adrift of the top two in their Women's Champions League group, while the visitors are yet to pick up a point.

Match preview

After progression through the qualifying rounds, St Polten were given a rude awakening when they were thrashed 4-0 by Wolfsburg on Thursday.

They seemed to be on course to collect three points against Roma when they took a two-goal lead, but the Italian side fought back to win 4-3.

On matchday three, St Polten's away meeting with Slavia Prague looked to be heading towards a goalless draw until Maria Mikolajova scored a 91st-minute winner to snatch all three points for the Austrian side.

That result represented a fourth consecutive victory in all competitions for St Polten, who have not played since beating the Czech Republic side two weeks ago.

If they are to stand any chance of closing the four-point gap to the top two, they will need to claim another victory on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Slavia Prague's hopes of reaching the knockout rounds are all but over after failing to pick up a single point from their three group games.

They were edged out 1-0 by Roma in their first group match, before losing 2-0 in their home meeting with Wolfsburg on matchday two.

Thursday's visitors were only minutes away from sharing the spoils with Slavia Prague, but the narrow defeat leaves them bottom of the group.

Although they are unlikely to progress to the knockout rounds, Slavia Prague will see Thursday's match as their best chance to pick up a point over their final three group games.

If they are to avoid a fourth consecutive defeat in the Champions League then they will need to perform better than did in Friday's 2-1 loss to Slovan Liberec in the Czech First League.

Team News

St Polten will be without Jasmin Eder due to suspension after she received a second yellow card in the 94th minute against Slavia Prague two weeks ago.

With Eder unavailable, Diana Lemesova is expected to come into the side to partner Claudia Wenger in central midfield.

After featuring as a second-half substitute in the Czech Republic, Rita Schumacher may be included in the starting lineup.

As for the visitors, they are unable to call upon the services of Martina Surnovska, who has been sidelined since October.

Despite losing to St Polten in November, Slavia Prague boss Karel Pitak could select the same lineup that started the 1-0 defeat.

Tereza Kozarova has scored 13 goals in all competitions this season, and she will look to add to her tally when she leads the line on Thursday.

St Polten Women possible starting lineup:
Schluter; Tabotta, Balog, Klein, Fuchs; Wenger, Lemesova; Zver, Mikolajova, Schumacher, Brunnthaler

Slavia Prague Women possible starting lineup:
Lukasova; Vesela, Necidova, Bartovicova, Khyrova; Krejcirikova, Keene; Divisova, Szewieczkova, Cerna; Kozarova

SM words green background

We say: St Polten Women 2-1 Slavia Prague Women

After being involved in a competitive encounter two weeks ago, we think that Thursday's meeting will be another closely-fought contest, but we believe that St Polten will draw confidence from their victory in the reverse fixture to claim another narrow win on matchday four.
