Stoke City to ditch Glen Johnson, Charlie Adam in January?

Glen Johnson and Charlie Adam will reportedly be axed by manager Mark Hughes in the January transfer window, as Stoke City attempt to trim their wage bill.

Mark Hughes is preparing to further cut his Stoke City squad in January by offloading Glen Johnson and Charlie Adam, according to a report.

The Welshman is under pressure at the bet365 Stadium following a disappointing few months for the Potters, who sit three places and three points above the dropzone.

Hughes is ready to take action when the transfer window reopens, as The Telegraph reports that Johnson and Adam will be part of a squad cull, with the intention of trimming their wage bill.

Adam recently hinted that he would welcome a move away from the Potteries, having not been named in any of Stoke's last four squads, while Johnson - also rumoured to be on £40,000 a week - has been used just four times in all competitions.

Another player facing an uncertain future is Stephen Ireland, who is also expected to depart despite being offered reduced terms earlier this year.
