Jack Butland open to leaving Stoke City on loan

Stoke City goalkeeper Jack Butland says that he is open to leaving the club on loan to a Championship outfit in order to play more first-team football.

Stoke City goalkeeper Jack Butland has claimed that he is willing to drop down into the Championship on loan in order to gain more first-team football.

The 20-year-old featured four times for the Potters last month, but Asmir Begovic's recovery from a broken finger is likely to push the keeper back to the bench.

Butland has also claimed that he has one eye on the World Cup in Brazil this summer, but has insisted that he needs to be playing regular football in order to have a hope of making Roy Hodgson's England squad.

"Now that the transfer window is closed a loan move to the Premier League is not on the cards, so I'll either see what happens at Stoke or assess my options in the Championship," Butland told Sky Sports News.

"If I'm not playing there is no way I can be chosen for any squad. I need to be playing in order to give myself a chance of going [to Brazil]."

Butland, who has already had loan spells at Birmingham City and Barnsley, made a permanent move to the Britannia Stadium from St Andrew's in January last year.
