Mark Hughes laments late Everton penalty

Mark Hughes feels that Stoke City deserved more than a point from their Premier League encounter with Everton.

Stoke City boss Mark Hughes believes that his team did enough to beat Everton at the Britannia Stadium.

A late penalty from Leighton Baines saw the Toffees leave with a point after Oussama Assaidi had given the Potters the lead five minutes after the break.

However, Hughes said that his players showed resilience in responding from their 3-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur and felt that they deserved more from the game.

"I thought we'd played really well today, great in every aspect really," the Welshman told Sky Sports News. "[We were] on the front foot and bounced back certainly from a poor performance against Spurs. But today we were right on the money I felt and really restricted Everton to very few real clear-cut chances.

"I felt we were always in the game in terms of possession and chances created, certainly in the first half, I thought we were excellent. Unfortunately we made a mistake and conceded a penalty and they were able to take something out of the game.

"But in terms of the game as a whole, I felt we deserved three points today."

Stoke are 12th in the Premier League.
