Mark Hughes hails "important" home win

Stoke City boss Mark Hughes hails his side's 2-1 win over Crystal Palace as a vitally "important" victory.

Stoke City boss Mark Hughes has hailed his side's 2-1 win over Crystal Palace, describing it as "important".

Second-half goals from Charlie Adam and Ryan Shawcross saw the Potters come from behind and claim their first points of the campaign.

Hughes accepted that his side did not play to the best of their abilities, but praised his players for their efforts in getting the win.

"Premier League points are like gold dust and this was important for us - I'm a new manager working really hard with a new group of players," Hughes told reporters.

"In fairness to them, they have worked their socks off to try to implement what we are trying to do.

"We will get better - we weren't great and we can play better, and I think we all accept that. But the important thing was to get a positive result."

Stoke travel to Upton Park next Saturday to face West Ham United.
