Benjamin Stambouli: 'Paris Saint-Germain have taken a gamble by signing me'

Benjamin Stambouli admits that Paris Saint-Germain have taken a gamble after signing him from Tottenham Hotspur.

Paris Saint-Germain have taken a gamble by signing Benjamin Stambouli from Tottenham Hotspur, the player has admitted.

Former Montpellier midfielder Stambouli joined the Ligue 1 champions from Spurs on Tuesday after a troubled stint in North London, and hopes to see his best form return under new manager Laurent Blanc.

"It's true that PSG took a gamble," he told reporters. "Being in England has helped me get experience. I'm highly motivated and ready to start showing what I can do at PSG.

"I'm arriving at a world famous club. England was my first step but this is a different level. I needed a few days to think about PSG's offer and I spoke to people about the club on the phone. I didn't hesitate anymore after that."

The 24-year-old made just 12 league appearances for Spurs, but says that his time at White Hart Lane was a "necessary step" for his career.

"Being abroad has strengthened me. Being in England will help me integrate into the PSG team, I love England I love their working culture. My experience there was essential. I would've wanted to play more but it helped me get here," he added.

PSG are currently taking part in the International Champions Cup in the United States and are due to play Chelsea on Saturday.
