Tottenham Hotspur confirm Clint Dempsey departure

Tottenham Hotspur reveal that they have agreed to let Clint Dempsey join the Seattle Sounders.

Clint Dempsey has joined the Seattle Sounders after just one season with Tottenham Hotspur.

Reports emerged over the last 24 hours that the American international forward was on the verge of a return to his homeland, with the Sounders and Los Angeles Galaxy both said to be keen on his services.

Spurs have now confirmed the deal, with the 30-year-old soon to be unveiled as a Sounders player.

The midfielder arrived at White Hart Lane last summer from Fulham and went on to make 43 appearances for the club, scoring 12 goals in the process.

It has been speculated that Spurs will receive around £6m for the Texas-born player.
