Tottenham Hotspur player Josh Onomah says that he is looking for a first-team breakthrough at the club next season, as his loan spell at Aston Villa comes to an end.

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Josh Onomah has revealed his desire to break into his side's first-team next season, following the end of his loan spell at Aston Villa.

Onomah's time at Villa ended with disappointment as the club were defeated in the Championship playoff final, losing 1-0 to Fulham at Wembley Stadium.

"[Tottenham have] been keeping in touch," he told football.london.

"There's a guy who checks on all loan players. He goes to every game and checks up on you to make sure everything's good. I was just saying to my friends and family that this might be my only summer where I get a few weeks off. I need to rest up and come back fully charged and ready for pre-season. I just want to get back to Spurs and make the most of my time there and see if I can break through. I need to take it step by step.

"I'm looking forward to the new stadium as well. It should be good. It's exciting times. They've done well securing that top four spot and playing in the Champions League. From the start of every season, we look to win trophies and hopefully we can do that next season. It's very important for the club [that Mauricio Pochettino signed a new deal]. They've been going in the right direction in recent years and everyone believes in the gaffer. We've just got see what the future holds."

Onomah came through the academy at Tottenham Hotspur and was first called up for Pochettino's side in 2015.
