How Tottenham Hotspur could line up against Manchester City

Sports Mole looks at how Tottenham Hotspur could line up for Saturday's Premier League clash with Manchester City.

Tottenham Hotspur could temporarily move to the top of the Premier League table on Saturday when they welcome Manchester City to North London.

Spurs are on the longest current unbeaten streak in the division and went into the international break off the back of three straight wins to climb up to second place.

However, their title credentials face the first of a prolonged run of difficult tests this weekend as Man City arrive looking to catch up after their own underwhelming start to the season.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how Jose Mourinho could line his side up as he pits his wits against old rival Pep Guardiola once again.

Possible TOT XI vs. MNC

Out: Matt Doherty (coronavirus), Erik Lamela (foot)
Doubtful: Tanguy Ndombele (foot), Steven Bergwijn (fitness), Japhet Tanganga (thigh), Harry Winks (unspecified)

Spurs will definitely be without Matt Doherty for this match after the full-back tested positive for coronavirus while on international duty with the Republic of Ireland.

The news came through shortly after Doherty had played against clubmate Gareth Bale in a match between Wales and Ireland, but Bale has not yet showed any signs of catching the virus and so remains free to play this weekend as things stand.

Serge Aurier is the most likely to take Doherty's place in an otherwise unchanged defensive line, with Sergio Reguilon having now seemingly established himself as first-choice left-back.

Giovani Lo Celso is now fit again and could come straight back into the starting lineup with question marks hanging over the fitness of Erik Lamela, Tanguy Ndombele, Harry Winks and Steven Bergwijn, the latter of whom was sent home from international duty after being deemed not fit enough.

Bale, Son Heung-min and Harry Kane could all start up front together once again, with the Real Madrid loanee no doubt keen to get in on the fruitful partnership which has flourished between his fellow attackers this season.

Kane alone has directly contributed to 23 goals in just 14 appearances across all competitions this season - eight more than any other Premier League player, with Son second in that list.
