Tottenham midfielder Victor Wanyama insists that his side's win over Manchester City before the international break does not automatically make them title contenders.

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Victor Wanyama has claimed that his side's 2-0 victory over Manchester City earlier this month does not automatically make them title contenders.

Spurs ended City's perfect start to the season in the final match before the international break, moving to within two points of Pep Guardiola's side at the top of the Premier League table as a result of the victory.

Mauricio Pochettino's side were also involved in a title race last season, but Wanyama warned that they need to keep their focus in every game if they are to challenge again.

"It's still early in the season, it was a big game but it doesn't make us contenders because we won. We just want to go to every game, get positive results and see from there," he told Sky Sports News.

"We knew they were a good side, the key was to win every battle on the pitch and make sure we won the game. It's simple to say but it's very tough to do it. It was a tough game, they are a hard team to beat.

"Our aim was to press high and try to win the ball as high as we could. Everyone was ready for the challenge and we stepped up as a team and showed what we can do."

Spurs, who are the only remaining unbeaten team in the Premier League this season, will take on West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.
