Mauricio Pochettino salutes "special" Erik Lamela strike

Mauricio Pochettino hails Erik Lamela's "special" first Premier League strike which earned Spurs a 2-1 victory over Burnley - their third victory in six days.

Mauricio Pochettino has saluted the "special" Erik Lamela strike which secured Tottenham Hotspur a 2-1 win over Burnley at White Hart Lane.

The £30m club-record signing cut inside from the left and bent beyond Tom Heaton from 25 yards to score his first Premier League goal since joining in 2013.

Pochettino is hopeful that his Argentine compatriot can begin to showcase his quality more regularly.

"Erik Lamela's strike was special. He is still young and he needs to keep fighting to show his quality," he told reporters.

Harry Kane had given Spurs the lead, before Ashley Barnes quickly equalised with an unstoppable shot.

The Spurs boss was also pleased with how the rest of his team performed to claim a third win in the space of six days, and praised defender Federico Fazio for helping to sustain late Burnley pressure.

"It was a hard win but after six days it was our third game," he added. "It was difficult but we are very pleased with our players. It was a big effort from them.

"Burnley are a physical team with lots of long balls and Federico Fazio performed very well."

Spurs, who climbed to sixth in the Premier League courtesy of the three points, travel to bottom-of-the-table Leicester City on Boxing Day before hosting Manchester United less than 48 hours later.
