Everton's Roberto Martinez hits back at Andre Villas-Boas

Roberto Martinez hits back at Andre Villas-Boas's claims that Romelu Lukaku could have avoided a collision with Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez has defended on-loan striker Romelu Lukaku following criticism from Tottenham Hotspur boss Andre Villas-Boas.

The Belgium international connected his knee with the head of Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris during last weekend's goalless draw, resulting in the Frenchman briefly falling unconscious.

Amid the fallout of the incident, Villas-Boas has claimed that Lukaku could have avoided colliding with Lloris, but Martinez believes that Phil Jagielka deserves an apology from Roberto Soldado for elbowing him in the chest during the match.

"The good thing is that you can watch the replay and see the video evidence," The Express quotes Martinez as saying.

"All Romelu is doing is carrying on his run and he can't disappear. I don't think Andre Villas-Boas mentioned there was any intent or wrongdoing.

"He only mentioned maybe he expected a bit of an apology, but we're waiting for Roberto Soldado to apologise to Phil Jagielka and use the same phonecall so we don't have to pay for two phonecalls."

Villas-Boas was criticised for allowing Lloris to play on following the incident.
