Manchester City view former Barcelona and Spain head coach Luis Enrique as a possible replacement for Pep Guardiola, according to a report.

Manchester City reportedly view former Barcelona and Spain head coach Luis Enrique as a possible replacement for their current boss Pep Guardiola.

Towards the end of last year, it was announced that Guardiola had signed a two-year contract extension at the Etihad Stadium, which would take him to the end of the 2024-25 campaign.

However, there remains ongoing speculation surrounding the 52-year-old, with suggestions that he could decide to leave the Citizens before the end of his deal.

According to El Chiringuito, there is a fear at Man City that Guardiola might decide to leave his role this summer, and the club are putting plans in place should that become a reality.

The report claims that the Spaniard could decide to take another sabbatical, which was the case when he left Barcelona, before returning to management with Bayern Munich in 2013.

Enrique is allegedly viewed as Man City's leading candidate, with the 52-year-old without a job since leaving his role with Spain following their disappointing 2022 World Cup campaign.

There are claims that the manager's representatives have already been contacted by Man City to discuss the position, which could be worth around £14m a season.

Enrique has also been linked with the Tottenham Hotspur job, and the experienced head coach recently said that he was open to taking on a role in the Premier League.

"I follow above all the Premier [League] because I would like to go to England to work," Enrique told La Ser Gijon last week.

"I wouldn't go to any team but to one that could do important things, which greatly reduces the number. I don't put my hopes up, really, because there are many candidates."

Enrique was in charge of Barcelona B between 2008 and 2011 before spending time with Roma and Celta Vigo ahead of his return to Camp Nou as manager of the first team in 2014.

During a three-year spell with the Catalan outfit, Enrique won two La Liga titles, three Copa del Rey crowns and the Champions League, leaving his role in May 2017.

The head coach then had two separate periods in charge of Spain, but he failed to win silverware for La Roja, ultimately leaving his position following the national side's last-16 exit at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Man City can still win the treble this season, with the team chasing success in the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup.
