Daniel Levy hails the "extraordinary" work achieved by Mauricio Pochettino to date and hopes that there is an "even more exciting" chapter ahead for Tottenham Hotspur.

Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy has claimed that Mauricio Pochettino's contract extension marks the start of an "even more exciting" chapter for the club.

The 46-year-old put pen to paper on a new long-term deal on Thursday, taking him through until the summer of 2023 and putting an end to speculation regarding his future.

Levy managed to persuade Pochettino to stay on in North London, having been offered an ultimatum by the ex-Espanyol and Southampton boss prior to holding talks this week.

Following the announcement that Pochettino is to stay on, Levy was quick to hail the popular manager's impressive work to date.

"I am delighted that we have agreed a new, extended contract with Mauricio," he told Tottenham's official website. "We have been on an extraordinary journey and the times ahead look even more exciting as the club enters the next phase in its history.

"Mauricio has fostered an incredible spirit in the team and has embraced a style of play our fans have loved watching. I know they will welcome this commitment by Mauricio."

Pochettino, linked with Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid of late, has guided Tottenham into the Champions League for three successive seasons.
