Yoan Gouffran "ashamed" of defeat to Tottenham Hotspur

Yoan Gouffran claims that the Newcastle United players feel "ashamed" following the 4-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

Yoan Gouffran has admitted to feeling "ashamed" following Newcastle United's 4-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday evening.

The French forward refused to make any excuses for his team's display, which encouraged boos from the home crowd after the final whistle.

"We are really disappointed, downbeat and feel very ashamed, especially for the fans," Gouffran told the club's official website.

"We have got injuries and suspensions but we don't want to use that as an excuse.

"Everything went wrong. From the first minute we just couldn't get into the match and then we conceded pretty soon after. We paid for that and couldn't get going."

Gouffran made his return from a groin injury in the loss at St James' Park.
