Tottenham Hotspur hammer Newcastle United at St James' Park

Tottenham Hotspur hammer Newcastle United in their Premier League clash as St James' Park as Emmanuel Adebayor scores a brace in the victory.

Tottenham Hotspur cruised to a comfortable 4-0 win over Newcastle United as Emmanuel Adebayor scored a brace in their victory at St James' Park this evening.

Spurs had a great chance to open the scoring in the sixth minute when Davide Santon was robbed of the ball by Younes Kaboul who teed up Paulinho, but his effort was well saved by Tim Krul.

Newcastle responded to this early threat as Mathieu Debuchy lifted a cross to the back post where Luuk de Jong won a header. He turned it into the path of Papiss Cisse, who failed to find the net from close range.

Cisse was punished for his miss as Spurs took the lead in the 18th minute when Nabil Bentaleb raided into the box. He powered a low cross across the face of goal, which fell into the path of Adebayor who tapped the ball home.

Tottenham came close to adding a second goal as Aaron Lennon received the ball down the right. He cut inside onto his left foot and fired at goal, but his effort was tipped onto the post by Krul.

After the break, Spurs doubled their advantage when Paulinho teed up Adebayor on the edge of the area. His shot was well saved by Krul, but Paulinho was able to pounce on the rebound to slot his effort into the net.

Newcastle almost got back into the game with a two great chances as first Debuchy was denied by an impressive save by Hugo Lloris from his header, while Cisse saw his close-range effort stopped as well.

Tim Sherwood's side sealed their win eight minutes from time when Adebayor got his second of the match. He pounced on a rebound from an Andros Townsend effort and his mishit shot crept over the line.

It got better for Spurs in the 88th minute when they rubbed salt in the wound of the Magpies, as Nacer Chadli fired an effort into the top corner with a great strike to round off the victory.
