Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas claims that goalkeeper Brad Friedel will remain the number one keeper at the club following his performance against Queens Park Rangers.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has insisted that goalkeeper Brad Friedel remains the number one shot-stopper at White Hart Lane.

The former Chelsea boss sparked controversy when he insisted that new signing Hugo Lloris would not walk into the Spurs side and following the North London club's 2-1 win over Queens Park Rangers yesterday, Villas-Boas is keen to keep the American in the fold.

"We have made Hugo alert that whenever Brad has a bad game we won't [drop him]," said Villas-Boas. "These things have to be taken very carefully.

"We don't doubt Hugo's dimension and talent but at the moment we are paying respect to a player who is performing very well."

Villas-Boas secure his first home win yesterday since joining Spurs in the summer.
