Rafael van der Vaart was left with mixed emotions following Tottenham Hotspur's Carling Cup exit last night.

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Rafael van der Vaart was "glad" to feature during yesterday's Carling Cup tie with Stoke City.

The match allowed the Dutch international to step up his recovery from a hamstring injury, although he was left "disappointed" by the result which saw Spurs exit the competition on penalties.

"Glad I could play again yesterday but very disappointed with the result though. Saturday set for 3 points against Wigan," the 28-year-old wrote on his Twitter account.

Hosts Stoke advanced after Thomas Sorensen saved Massimo Luongo's spot-kick.
