How Tottenham Hotspur could line up under Ange Postecoglou

Sports Mole takes a look at how Tottenham Hotspur could line up under Ange Postecoglou following the 57-year-olds's arrival from Celtic on a four-year deal.

Tottenham Hotspur's long and arduous search for a new head coach has now come to an end, as Celtic treble-winner Ange Postecoglou prepares to cross the border to take over in North London.

With a four-year contract signed, sealed and delivered, Postecoglou has received quite the show of faith from Spurs chairman Daniel Levy, and the 57-year-old will now begin to mould the squad into his own vision after his appointment was confirmed on Tuesday.

Ahead of an expected mass clearout of fringe players, and potentially some more unwanted departures, the Lilywhites boss is already believed to have identified a number of summer transfer targets in a bid to guide Tottenham back into European football at the first time of asking.

Here, Sports Mole takes a closer look at how Tottenham could line up under Postecoglou.

TOT XI under POS

A devotee of the 4-3-3 during his time at Celtic, Postecoglou would no doubt seek to employ similar tactics at Tottenham, who must quickly desist from the old way of thinking in Antonio Conte's 3-4-3.

Cristian Stellini's brief four-man backline experiment at Newcastle United ended in disaster, so Postecoglou sure does have his work cut out, but a new number one could immediately help matters.

Indeed, with Hugo Lloris in decline and confirming that he would be open to a summer exit, Postecoglou is reportedly keen on Brentford's David Raya as a replacement, and the Spaniard should be available for a £40m fee ahead of the 2023-24 season.

Pedro Porro has shown promise as a wing-back but should no doubt get the nod over Emerson Royal as an out-and-out right-back, while Udinese loanee Destiny Udogie will hope to immediately stake his claim for regular starts once he touches down in London, as neither Ben Davies nor Ivan Perisic are long-term options.

Wolverhampton Wanderers' Max Kilman is thought to be a candidate to plug a leaky Spurs backline and would link arms with Cristian Romero if that is the case, while Yves Bissouma could belatedly enjoy a breakthrough season in North London in the number six role.

Rodrigo Bentancur should be one of the first names on the teamsheet once his ACL injury heals, while Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg appears to be the most likely option to complete the triumvirate for now, but the Lilywhites' pursuit of Leicester City's James Maddison is one to keep an eye on.

As every week passes, Spurs are no closer to agreeing a new contract with all-time top goalscorer Harry Kane, who is now a priority target for Real Madrid after Karim Benzema's Bernabeu farewell.

Postecoglou is thought to be plotting a reunion with Celtic's Kyogo Furuhashi regardless of Kane's future, and the 2022-23 Scottish Premiership top scorer could be flanked by Son Heung-min and Dejan Kulusevski - whose loan from Juventus is expected to be made permanent - if Kane does indeed seek pastures new in search of silverware.
