Half-Time Report: Spain clinch lead against Luxembourg

David Silva and Alvaro Morata are both forced off with injuries before Santi Cazorla hands Spain a 1-0 half-time lead over Luxembourg.

Spain lost David Silva and Alvaro Morata to injuries before earning a 1-0 half-time lead over Group C rivals Luxembourg this evening.

It was a disappointing start for the home side when Silva was forced off after a heavy tackle, and the injury will certainly come as a concern for Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini, who is set to be without Sergio Aguero for a month.

The opening goal should have arrived just a few moments later when Santi Cazorla's strike fell to Jordi Alba, who could only fire the ball over the crossbar from a promising position.

Spain continued to dominate possession after a bright start, and they rattled the crossbar through Cazorla, before Alvaro Morata fired wide as the hosts piled the pressure on.

Despite controlling the match, Spain were unable to find the breakthrough before the interval and they were dealt another blow when Morata was stretchered off the pitch with an injury.

Good news would come on the brink of half time when Cazorla slotted in from close range after Jonathan Joubert had kept out Pedro's powerful strike.
