Half-Time Report: Jack Payne gives Southend United first-half lead over Oxford United

Jack Payne scores on his debut to give Southend United a 1-0 lead over Oxford United going into half-time of their League Two contest at Roots Hall.

Southend United lead Oxford United 1-0 after 45 minutes of their League Two match at Roots Hall.

Jack Payne scored the only goal of the first-half to give Phil Brown's side the advantage going into the break.

With neither taking their chances throughout the opening half-an-hour, it was Payne who broke the deadlock in the 34th minute.

Conor Clifford laid the ball off to debutant Payne, who drilled the ball low into the corner of the net to make it 1-0.
