Ronald Koeman: 'Sadio Mane benched for showing up late to Liverpool game'

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman reveals that Sadio Mane didn't start against Liverpool because he showed up "25-30 minutes" late to the pre-match meal.

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman has revealed that Sadio Mane didn't start today's Premier League game against Liverpool because he turned up late.

Koeman told a post-match press conference after losing 2-0 to the Reds that the Senegalese wideman showed up to the pre-match meal "25-30 minutes" late.

Mane was dropped to the bench, but still made an appearance by coming on in the 57th minute as the Saints missed out on the chance to move back into the top four.

Since joining Southampton from Red Bull Salzburg last summer, Mane has scored five Premier League goals in 18 appearances.
