Ronald Koeman: 'Some players move clubs for the money'

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman claims that some footballers think primarily about money when considering moves to other clubs.

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman has claimed that his players are motivated by more than money, while some footballers at other clubs think about wages first and foremost.

The Saints saw a series of players leave at the end of last season, with Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren and Rickie Lambert all joining Liverpool in the summer.

Koeman told BBC Sport: "A reason to move is not always for the player to do [with] football. Maybe it's about money and we can't pay salaries like the big teams pay. It's always less here.

"If you stay here, you stay for different reasons. You stay for the fact you are more sure that you play every weekend."

Despite the summer exodus, Southampton are fifth in the Premier League table.
