Mauricio Pellegrino: 'Southampton deserve more points'

Boss Mauricio Pellegrino says that Southampton's performances have warranted more than 13 points from 11 games in the Premier League.

Manager Mauricio Pellegrino has claimed that Southampton deserve to be higher up the Premier League table.

A 1-0 defeat to Burnley has left the Saints in 13th place after 11 games, and Pellegrino has started to come under pressure to deliver an improved set of results at St Mary's.

However, the Argentine is confident that the south coast club remain "on the right track", despite only sitting four points above the relegation zone.

The 46-year-old is quoted by the Daily Echo as saying: "I think our results have been irregular. When you think four or five games we deserved a little bit more.

"We've played better than the points we have in the table. When we think about Burnley, Swansea, Stoke or Manchester United, we deserved more.

"Two or three points is massive because there are ten or 12 teams that are within three points. More or less at the end of last season between eighth and 17th there was six points. We are talking about two games between ten or 12 teams, but I think we're on the right track."

Southampton are next in action on Saturday, November 18 when they face Liverpool at Anfield.
