Jack Cork keen to extend Southampton contract

Southampton midfielder Jack Cork says that he would like to sign a new contract at St Mary's.

Southampton midfielder Jack Cork has said that he would like to sign a new contract at St Mary's.

The 24-year-old was one of the Saints' automatic picks during his first two seasons on the South Coast, but he struggled for regular game time earlier this campaign after falling behind summer signing Victor Wanyama in manager Mauricio Pochettino's pecking order.

However, Cork has since done enough to impress Pochettino and has consequently featured in all seven of Southampton's games in 2014.

"Yes, I think I'd like a new deal," Cork told the Southern Daily Echo. "I mean, it was hard at the start of the season, I wasn't sure what I wanted to do, but things have changed, I've been playing a lot of games, and I do love being around here.

"I love everyone here, I'm so settled here. I love everything about it, so I would love to stay here, but, obviously, if things go back to how they were at the start of the season then things may change."

Cork's current contract is due to expire in June 2015.
