Jack Cork looking forward to Southampton return

Southampton midfielder Jack Cork reveals that he is relishing the chance to get back in the side after a six-week absence through injury.

Southampton midfielder Jack Cork has revealed that he is desperate to get back in the side following six weeks out through injury.

The 25-year-old recently made his comeback for the club's Under-21s after spending over a month on the sidelines because of an ankle problem.

Cork is now hoping to be in contention for the Saints' trip to Ipswich Town in the FA Cup on Wednesday.

"I've had some good rehab and the staff have been brilliant in trying to get me back to fitness. I'm back a lot sooner than my scans showed, which is perfect. Hopefully it'll continue like that and it'll be trouble-free," he told the club's official website.

"With all of the suspensions and injuries over Christmas I might've got a good few games in, so I was gutted to miss that period. Hopefully there'll be more chances for me before the end of the season.

"If I can get any minutes over the next five days at all I'll be really happy with that. I'm pleased with how the lads are doing – they're flying, so hopefully when I come back we can keep the results coming."

Cork has scored three goals in 13 games for Southampton so far this season.
