Will Keane's penalty gives Sheffield Wednesday a point against Cardiff City

Will Keane's powerful penalty earns Sheffield Wednesday a 1-1 draw with Cardiff City at Hillsborough.

Will Keane's second-half penalty earned Sheffield Wednesday a 1-1 draw at home to Cardiff City in the Championship this afternoon.

The Welsh side scored after just seven minutes as the recalled Jones planted a header into the bottom corner, latching onto the end of a Scott Malone cross.

Jones and his new strike partner Eoin Doyle almost combined to double the Bluebirds' lead shortly after, but Doyle fired wide after Jones neatly flicked the ball to him.

The partnership was clearly developing nicely as Jones flicked on a Aron Gunnarsson throw perfectly for Doyle, but, once again, he could not find the target.

Jones came within inches of a second for a dominant Cardiff, but his low shot from Doyle's pass whistled just past the post.

Wednesday struggled to create many chances in the first half, but they almost equalised through Chris Maguire, who surged towards the box before shooting narrowly wide.

The home side made a quick start to the second half and they almost levelled when Stevie May crashed a shot against the post.

Cardiff fell back towards their own box in the second period as Wednesday started to threaten, and the Owls should have equalised through Sam Hutchinson, who blasted the ball over the bar when unmarked in the box.

However, they got their goal shortly after as substitute Sergio Bus earned his side a penalty when he was fouled by Malone.

Striker Will Keane smashed the ball home to bring the scores level with just 15 minutes to go, but neither side could create a decent opportunity for a winner.
