Sheffield United stun Queens Park Rangers in FA Cup third round

A Marc McNulty goal and Jamal Campbell-Ryce brace give League One Sheffield United a 3-0 victory over Premier League victims QPR in the third round of the FA Cup.

League One side Sheffield United have knocked Queens Park Rangers out of the FA Cup in the third round with a 3-0 victory at Loftus Road this afternoon.

A strike from Marc McNulty and two goals for Jamal Campbell-Ryce gave last season's semi-finalists the win over their Premier League opponents.

Jose Baxter almost gave the Blades the lead in the 20th minute, but his strike from distance flew narrowly wide of the post, with Alex McCarthy beaten.

McNulty opened the scoring in the 35th minute, slotting the ball underneath the onrushing McCarthy after being set up by Louis Reed.

QPR top scorer Charlie Austin had the opportunity to level the scores before the break, but his header went just over the bar.

United doubled their lead three minutes after the break when a Reed corner was not dealt with by the home defence, allowing Campbell-Ryce to poke the ball home from close range.

Bobby Zamora went close to reducing the deficit five minutes later, but he guided his header wide of the post after being picked out in the centre of the penalty area.

QPR began to increase the pressure as Leroy Fer and Austin forced United's defence into two quick blocks to keep the score at 2-0.

The Hoops continued to be wasteful in front of goal, though, with Matt Phillips blazing two efforts over the bar in the final 20 minutes.

Nigel Clough's United booked their place in the fourth round in injury time, as Campbell-Ryce rounded two defenders before slotting the ball beyond McCarthy to seal another cup upset for the Blades.
