Preview: Las Palmas vs. Sevilla - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Sunday's La Liga clash between Las Palmas and Sevilla, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Las Palmas will be bidding to bounce back from three successive defeats when they continue their La Liga campaign against Sevilla at Estadio Gran Canaria on Sunday afternoon.

The home side are currently 12th in the table, boasting 37 points from their 30 league games this season, while Sevilla sit 14th, six points behind their opponents in this weekend's contest.

Las Palmas secured a return to Spain's top flight for the 2023-24 campaign courtesy of their second-placed finish in the Segunda Division last term, so this season was always going to be about consolidation.

With that in mind, it has been a strong campaign for the club, who have won 10, drawn seven and lost 13 of their 30 matches to collect 37 points, which has left them in 12th position in the table.

Las Palmas are 12 points ahead of the bottom three, so they have no relegation fears at this stage, while just two points separates them from ninth-placed Osasuna heading into the next set of fixtures.

Garcia Pimienta's side are without a victory in their last six matches in Spain's top flight, losing each of their last three against Athletic Bilbao, Almeria and Barcelona without finding the back of the net.

Los Amarillos have been relatively solid at home this season, though, picking up 22 points from 15 matches, and they will be welcoming a Sevilla side that have won just three times on their travels in 2023-24.

Sevilla, meanwhile, will enter this match off the back of a 1-0 victory over Getafe, with Sergio Ramos netting the only goal of the contest in the fifth minute.

Quique Sanchez Flores's side are not yet out of the relegation mix, but they sit six points ahead of 18th-placed Cadiz and are just one point behind 13th-placed Alaves.

There is no getting away from the fact that it has been another disappointing campaign for Sevilla, who finished 12th in La Liga last term, which proved to be their worst final spot since being relegated in 2000.

Los Nervionenses are six points behind 12th-placed Las Palmas ahead of this contest, while they are seven from Villarreal in 10th, so it will be difficult to push for a top-half position.

Sevilla, who won the Europa League last season to secure Champions League football for 2023-24, will be bidding to record their seventh straight La Liga victory over Las Palmas in Sunday's contest.

Team News

Las Palmas will be without the services of Alvaro Valles following his red card in the clash with Barcelona last time out, so Aaron Escandell is set for a start between the sticks.

Julian Araujo remains out with a hamstring problem, but the home side are otherwise in strong shape, and there are not expected to be any major surprises when it comes to their team on Sunday.

Munir El Haddadi was replaced early on against Barcelona last time out due to Valles's red card, but he will lead the line for the hosts, while Sandro Ramirez and Marvin Park should continue in the wide areas.

As for Sevilla, Djibril Sow is out for the season with a foot problem, while Hannibal Mejbri and Marcao are major doubts for the visitors this weekend.

Marcos Acuna picked up a milestone yellow card last time out and will therefore be suspended against Las Palmas, but Jesus Navas is back from a ban of his own and will return to the XI.

Lucas Ocampos could switch across to the left-sided wing-back role due to Acuna's absence, while it will once again be Youssef En-Nesyri and Isaac Romero in the final third of the field.

Las Palmas possible starting lineup:
Escandell; Suarez, Coco, Marmol, S Cardona; Mavin, Munoz, K Rodriguez, Loiodice, Sandro; Munir

Sevilla possible starting lineup:
Nyland; Navas, Bade, Ramos, Salas, Ocampos; Torres, Gudelj, Soumare; En-Nesyri, Romero

We say: Las Palmas 1-1 Sevilla

Sevilla have won their last six La Liga matches against Las Palmas, and it is almost nine years since Los Amarillos triumphed in this fixture. The hosts will enter the match in disappointing form, but we are expecting them to be good enough to secure a share of the spoils against an inconsistent Sevilla on Sunday.
