Lynsey Sharp: Silver win was "unbelievable moment"

Scotland's Lynsey Sharp explains how she was forced to visit a hospital just hours before taking silver in the 800m on Friday.

Scotland's Lynsey Sharp has described the "unbelievable moment" of taking silver in the 800m on Friday.

The distance runner was taken to hospital on Thursday and eventually left the medical facility on Friday morning, just hours before winning the medal in her event, and she has explained the events of the last 48 hours.

She told BBC Sport: "I left the clinic in the Village at 5.30am yesterday morning. Everyone was on their way home after a night out. I was at a pretty low point but knew I would still compete. Something took over in me. After the journey I have been on I wouldn't let this last thing take me down.

"I had surgery in September and then again in October, it was meant to be a quick recovery but mine was extremely complicated, I need to have more surgery next month because I've got a chronic infection.

"It all sunk in when I looked down at the medal on the podium. I hadn't taken in the fact I would have a medal, I had seen a few in the village, but this is mine, it was an unbelievable moment."

The gold was won by world champion Eunice Sum.
