Sampdoria edge past Cagliari

Sampdoria beat Cagliari 1-0 in their Serie A meeting at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

Sampdoria have stretched their unbeaten Serie A run to three matches by beating Cagliari 1-0 at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

Stefano Okaka came close to opening the scoring for the hosts, but saw his strike saved by Vlada Avramov.

The Genoa outfit took the lead soon after when Daniele Gastaldello met Vasco Regini's cross to head in at the back post.

Manolo Gabbiadini came close to extending the home side's advantage at the end of the first half, but was denied by Avramov.

After the break Nene had a good opportunity to draw Cagliari level when he was picked out inside the box, before seeing his attempt pushed wide by Angelo da Costa.

Marco Sau and Matias Vecino had chances late on to find the net, but their attempts were saved and Sampdoria held on to claim the three points.
